This one ran from December 2008 – June 2009, which is unusually long. It’s also kind of boring: only the last few pages did I get some good stuff and then there were no more pages! This is one of my favorite journals in terms of how it looks though – I wish I had more of that paper and ribbon so I could make a new one.
I’m not sure I’m actually “done” with this one yet – it’s full, but there are many pages that are kind of… eh, and would benefit from a re-visit. Lately I’ve been interested in the idea of a journal as an object rather than just a series of entries. I guess I’m kind of getting at the idea of a “life book” (Suzi Blu used this term but I can’t find the video where I first heard it); a book (or other thing) that represents a chunk of your life, rather than a string of days. I’ve never really gone back and re-worked old pages because of that old “omgzz it has to be chronological and what’s past is past” thing I have — but I stopped dating my entries long ago, and if I want to refer to a specific event I usually write it out in a different book (I still prefer to keep my writing/art journals separate, for no reason other than paper quality – I don’t want to “waste” heavier paper with writing, and writing paper is too flimsy for anything). So I’ll move on to another book but I may keep this one open and rework it and see what happens. Or I’ll just put it somewhere and forget about it. Yay!
